107-7735 Fuel Injector Installation Guide

Section 1: Pre-Installation & Preparation

  • Clean the Bore: Thoroughly clean the injector sleeve/bore hole in the cylinder head. Ensure it is completely free of dirt, carbon buildup, or old fuel residue.

  • O-Ring Lubrication: Install new O-rings onto the injector body and tip. Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the O-rings to prevent tearing during insertion.

  • Inspect the Brass Sleeve: Check the copper/brass injector sleeve inside the head for signs of wear or pitting. If damaged, it must be reamed or replaced to ensure a tight seal.

Section 2: Injector Installation Steps

1.Position the Injector:Align with Control Rack.

Place the injector into the cylinder head bore. Carefully rotate and swing the injector until the control gear pins engage correctly with the fuel control rack assembly.

2.Seat the Injector:Click into Place.

Push down firmly on the return spring of the injector by hand until you hear or feel a distinct clicking sound, indicating it has slipped into the initial seat.

3.Apply the Forcing Tool:Mechanical Seating Process.

Mount the specialized Cat seating/positioning tool over the injector. Tighten the tool's mounting bolts to 20 lb-ft, and then torque the upper forcing/seating bolt to 25 lb-ft. Wait 5 seconds to allow the injector to fully bottom out, then verify torque.

4.Torque the Retaining Bolt:Final Fastening.

Remove the seating tool. Install and tighten the injector hold-down/retaining bolt using a calibrated torque wrench.

  • Final Torque Specification: 10 lb-ft ($13.5 text{ N}cdottext{m}$)

Section 3: Critical System Tuning

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because the 107-7735 is a mechanical unit injector (MUI), you MUST perform mechanical synchronization after installation.

  • Rocker Arm Reinstallation: Reinstall the rocker arm shaft assembly and torque according to standard CAT manual settings.

  • Injector Synchronization (The Rack Adjustment): Use a dial indicator to set the exact timing and synchronization of the injector fuel control rod relative to the master control rack.

  • Fuel System Priming: Manually prime the fuel system using the hand primer pump to purge any trapped air before cranking the engine to prevent dry fires or spring failures.
