Installation Guide: CAT 392-0217 Fuel Injection Pump
1. Critical Precautions
-
Absolute Cleanliness: The fuel system is highly sensitive to debris. Wash the engine block area thoroughly before removal. Cap all open fuel lines immediately.

Seals & Gaskets: Always replace the pump O-ring, mounting gasket, and high-pressure pipe washers with brand-new OEM replacements.

Electrical Safety: Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
2. Removal Steps
-
Disconnect the low-pressure fuel supply and return lines. Cap the openings.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the pump (solenoid/actuator).
-
Remove the high-pressure fuel injection lines using a flare nut wrench. Cap the fuel rail and pump outlets.

Rotate the engine crankshaft to Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke for Cylinder No. 1. Insert the engine timing pin if required by your specific manual.

Remove the access cover on the front timing gear housing, loosen the pump drive gear nut, and use a suitable gear puller to break the pump shaft free from the gear.
