Check the Seating: Ensure the injector is completely and squarely seated in the cylinder head bore. There should be no tilting.
Leakage Check: Look for any fuel puddling around the injector body or fuel rail connections.
Combustion Blow-by: Check for carbon deposits or black soot around the base of the injector, which indicates the copper washer failed to seal properly.
Torque Specifications: Verify that the hold-down clamp bolts are tightened exactly to the manufacturer's specified torque. (Under-tightening causes leaks; over-tightening can damage the injector or cylinder head).
High-Pressure Lines: Ensure the high-pressure fuel lines are aligned without tension and the nuts are torqued correctly.
Engine Sound (Acoustic Test): Listen for a distinct "hissing" or "puffing" sound while the engine is running, which indicates combustion gas leaking past the injector seal (blow-by).
Smooth Idling: The engine should idle smoothly. Rough idling, misfires, or excessive white/black smoke often point to an improperly installed or uncoded injector.
IMA/Trim Code Programming: For modern common rail injectors (like Bos-ch), ensure the correct correction code (IMA code) has been written into the ECU.
Fuel Rail Pressure Test: Use a diagnostic scanner to check if the fuel rail can build up and maintain the correct operating pressure without dropping.
